Ministry of Health issued a new provision of pharmacy
In a recent statement, the Mauritius Pharmacy Council (PAM) listed new regulations for the establishment of pharmacies. The new regulations include: (i) a pharmacy for every 2,000 inhabitants, (ii) a distance of at least 200 meters from the new pharmacy and the old pharmacy. While the latter was welcomed by WFP, the former was not. WFP sent a letter to the Ministry of Health and the Pharmaceutical Committee to express an objection. Omonila Aumeer, WFP President, said: “Every 2,000 people are too exaggerated to build a pharmacy. The World Health Organization recommends that every 5,000 people set up a pharmacy, our pharmacy has been everywhere, this new requirement will accelerate the deterioration of our living environment. ”
According to the new standards, the island can build a total of 650 pharmacies. Omira believes that this figure is too high, the current 350 pharmacies is enough, and the data has reached 1: 3714 (pharmacy / resident) ratio, far beyond the WHO standards. She suggested that PAM should consider the establishment of other important factors in the pharmacy, such as the qualifications of pharmacists and so on.
